The next morning we wanted to explore the town and also find out more about the volcano. We wanted to learn about what it meant for the flights home, so walked down Columbo Street to the Air New Zealand Office. We were given a freephone number and told to check the website.
We headed back towards the town centre and ended up at the Arts and Crafts Market. A lovely little craft fair, with loads of gorgeous clothes and jewellery. We had a brew and something to eat whilst watching a very talented young busker. We then ventured around the corner to the Arts Gallery, which was rubbish!! We just didn’t get it at all, very strange!
After that we crossed the street and had a little stroll through the Botanic Gardens. It was really pretty and the weather was perfect. We walked down by the river and saw the punts going along. The park was packed with children and ducks!!
After the park, we were all getting thirsty so found the pub The Bard, the English pub made famous by Ali and Gould. We drank a pint in celebration for them both..... cheers!!
After a swift pint and a half, we decided to head back to the Motel. By now we were getting worried about the flights, as we’d read and heard the UK had cancelled all the flights. We didn’t realise things were quite so bad. We were told to ring Air NZ the next morning, to check if the flights home the next day were on.
We thought a take away Thai would cheer us up, whilst me and Mum sorted out the washing, the Hines boys went for the food. A very nice tea it was too before we headed off to bed, wondering what the next day would bring.
