Boat rides and illusive lakes .....

After an awesome sunrise we had breakfast. We booked our boat cruise at the reception of the Motel and drove straight to Milford Lodge again.

The weather wasn’t as good as the previous day but it was dry. Donning our waterproofs, we arrived with 20 minutes to spare and walked to the ferry terminal. We waited there for our Mitre Peak cruise, it’s the smallest of the cruise boats. We sat on the top deck with some great seats and set off sailing through the mouth of the sound. We were told we could possibly see some dolphins and seals but the water was too choppy to make anything out. We passed by the Bowen Falls, the massive Mitre Peak, Anita Bay and even got soaked by the Stirling Falls. It’s impossible to describe this place, it’s just HUGE!! We turned around in the Tasman Sea, the waves were big here but soon calmed again when coming back in the bay. It’s easy to see why Captain Cook missed this place, the entrance is so hidden. The whole cruise lasted 2 hours and we were slightly chilled by the end of it but stuck it out on top!!

We ended up back at the Blue Lake Cafe and Bar and all had soup to warm ourselves up! It had just started to rain so we headed back out on the road again.

We had a pit stop at Lake Gun and completed the 45 minute return walk through the woods. It was so green, we didn’t get wet much as we were shielded by the trees. Although we did get wetter when we got to the water’s edge, it was freezing! We got some good photos before heading back to the car and driving some more. The weather was starting to ease up a bit now and it seemed a bit brighter.

Our next stop was the ‘illusive’ Lake Mistletoe. We just had to see it and took the path for our 45 minutes walk. There wasn’t much to see on the walk there and after 5 minutes we were at Lake Mistletoe. It was very poor!! We tried to manage a smile for the group photo and then wet/cold walked the 5 minutes back to the car.

We headed home, stopping off at the supermarket. Ben made a curry for tea and we watched The Boat That Rocked movie before heading to bed.
