Tombstone Backpackers and enjoying the Freebies !!

We’re now on the Magic Bus once again and heading to Picton for the night. Hopefully we should be there by 11ish so we’ll have pretty much all afternoon there. We need to catch the afternoon ferry there tomorrow to Wellington.

WOW, just stopped off at Ohau Stream Walk. A 10 minutes walk up stream to a waterfall. It was full of little seal pups!! The walk up to the waterfall we saw 2 or 3 pups just playing in the stream but when we got to the waterfall ....... wow!! Totally amazing........ loads of little pups playing in the water. One even hopped over to where we were standing, it got so close we had to move back away from it. It was right at our feet, I was telling Ben to reach out and touch it but he didn’t! It’s eye’s were huge and it checked us out before hopping off back to the water. We’ve never seen anything like it, truly amazing!!

Just sitting on our balcony looking out over Picton. We’ve got mountains in front of us with the sun shining above them. To the left of us is the Picton water, where we catch the ferry tomorrow. The bus got us here at 12ish and we went straight to the Information Centre for a hostel. They booked us into the Tombstone Backpackers on Graveyard Road. Lynne collected us in her black hearse and drove us to the backpackers. Our room is lovely and we’re loving the balcony!

We had a walk around the tiny town, only 4,000 people live here apparently. We had a bite to eat on the waterside before going for a walk to Bob’s Bay. It was an hour return walk along the Cliffside and water’s edge. We got to the little bay and sat, it was so quiet. We even got to see the Bluebridge Ferry going out, on its way to Wellington. It was so hot walking along, as it was really sheltered.

We walked back to the supermarket and bought some stuff for tea and walked back to enjoy the view and the sunshine at the hostel. We keep saying it but this is the life!!

When the sun went in we headed down for a game of pool, the table was on a slant and the pool tips were wonky but we still managed a game. After that we started a game of ‘round the clock’ darts, after 30 minutes we were still on 4, so we called it a day and raced to change into our swimmers for 20 minutes in the spa. 38 degrees water, it was lush!! We even had a couple of cans whilst in there and watched the sun go down. We even got to see another ferry coming in. It was quite chilly outside but so hot under the water, We had 30 minutes of bubbles and hotness before we got bored and hungry. Legging it upstairs to get warm again before heading for some tea.

We even got to watch a DVD with tea and enjoyed our cheap beer we bought at the supermarket.

We’re now sitting on the Interislander, the ferry taking us to the north island. We woke this morning and stuffed ourselves with the FREE breakfast. Lynne kindly dropped us at the ferry terminal for 9.10am and we checked in our bags. We only had 30 minutes to wait before we could board.

The weather is perfect, not too choppy. We’ve just had a cuppa and should be at Wellington for 1.15pm. We’ve booked 2 nights at a B&B close to town, it was cheaper than the hostels!! Only 10 sleeps until the Blackwell’s arrive ...... yippee!!
